Love Is An Open Door Valentine’s Day Card, Cymplified!

Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day, what plans do you have with your hubby and/or kids? My husband and I don’t really celebrate it because of practical reasons like traffic jams and packed restaurants. And if we were to go on a date, we have to bring the kids since they don’t have a nanny. It’s going to be a very ordinary day for us.

But, I have been bitten by the love bug and decided to do something for Valentine’s. Not a grand romantic gesture, though, I made a cymple Valentine’s Day card inspired by the song Love Is An Open Door from the movie Frozen. I would like to share it with you.

I gathered my materials:

  • 2 pieces colored papers, one light blue, one pink (I didn’t want to use the usual color red)
  • scissors
  • glue
  • glitters
  • marker

colored papers, folded one in half, cut the other one in half

cut the halved paper as you would when making a heart, but leave some attached to the paper for the “hinges”, then cut the heart in half

With the folded paper in portrait orientation, glue the cut paper to the bottom half so that the card opens like an awning window. It can also open like a book, if you want, but the heart should be cut in  a vertical orientation.

what do you think of my door? more like a cage? haha!

After the glue has dried, I wrote the letters on the front and inside the “door”. Then, it’s time to decorate! I placed heart cutouts and sprinkled them with glitters. The lines on my door are made of glue and glitter, too.

I used gold, silver and pink glitters, plus a pink marker

Here is the Valentine’s Day card in action, the heart doors open to the words. You could also write a “secret” message inside. Use beads and strings to make a “lock” for the door.

ta-da!

Did you make any Valentine’s Day crafts for your loved ones or with your children? Please share with me your links in the comments, I would love to see them.

Aww, that’s just so sweet, sis! So thoughtful and timely (Frozen, hihi! kidding!) When hubby and I weren’t married yet, I always do DIY cards for him, not only during Valentine’s Day but even when there’s no occasion, haha! But now that we’re married and have a son, I feel sad that I haven’t been able to continue doing that, although I know he understands and he doesn’t mind, but still. Anyway, I will do my best to find time soon. Maybe, when our son grows a little bigger, he’d help me, too. That would be awesome! :-)
